Vacation, Had To Get Away

If you read this blog you'd know I was in Miami this weekend for Supercon. Had even more fun this year than I did at last year's Supercon.

Some notable guest experiences,
  • Jim McCann - One of the nicest people i've met in the comic industry, a great rep for Marvel and answered all my ridiculous questions.
  • Filip Sablik - Super friendly, does a great job of promoting Top Cow.
  • Lloyd Kaufman - Quite possibly insane in the most wonderful way.
  • John Wesley Shipp - Enjoyed talking to him at the VIP Party.
  • Dana Snyder - Hilarious, super nice, his voices make you crack up instantly.
The only things I didn't enjoy about the weekend,
  • The weather -  Way too hot inside and outside of the convention.
  • Photography - Nearly all the pics I took turned out bad or I didn't take enough.
  • Late Night - I think i've gotten too old for the anime crowd that pretty much is every late night event at the con.
  • Scheduling - I should've gone on friday, the comic book VIP party was probally a blast.
Everything I brought to get signed (over 20 comics) was signed except for 1 comic because I couldn't find Alex Saviuk anywhere at the convention.

Saturday I got my signings done early, went to a awesome Troma Q&A w/ Lloyd Kaufman. Asked a bunch of nerdy Avengers questions at the Marvel Panel. Saw a couple Supercon Wrestling matches, Chun Li vs. Captain America was hilarious. Went to the media VIP party and hung out with celebrities, ended up at the same restaurant as the wrestlers afterwards. Wandered the hotel and ended up checking out some of the late night aspects of the convention. Around 1am it was like some sort of anime wild west where anything goes, lawlessness lol.

On sunday morning I did a bunch of shopping at the vendors area of the convention floor, I didn't find the early Walking Dead issues I wanted but found some gems. I now have every single original Avengers & Iron Man annual from the 60's to the 2000's.

I think this is the majority of what I picked up,

Books/Graphic Novels...
American Splendor: Another Dollar, The Darkness: Origins Vol. 1, The Darkness: Accursed Vol. 1, Direct Your Own Damn Movie! signed by Lloyd Kaufman, Essential The Incredible Hulk Vol. 1, Essential Man-Thing Vol. 1, Image Holiday Special 2005, Invincible Vol. 4: Head Of The Class, Invincible Vol. 10: Who's The Boss?, Wanted

Comics...
Adolescent Radioactive Blackbelt Hamsters In 3-D #1-4, The Avengers Vol. 1 Annual #1 (King-Size Special), The Avengers Vol. 4 #1, Citizen V and The V-Battalion #1-3, Critters #1-6, Dynamo 5 #1-4, Iron Man Vol. 1 Annual #1-2, Iron Man Legacy #2, Marvel Preview #2, Negative Burn Vol. 2 #1-17, Velocity Vol. 2 #1 PPF blank sketch cover, Velocity Vol. 2 #1 Tate's sketch cover

Movie Posters...
Battle Royale, Clerks., Kick-Ass, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre '74, Lucio Fulci's Zombie

and of course I got Dana Snyder to sketch Zombie Master Shake.

After the con got lost trying to find my bank in Miami, it's a huge city and very very confusing. Went to the Miccosukee casino and won a small jackpot and managed to leave the casino without losing it!

Checked out on monday, went to Hong Kong City for Dim Sum, stopped at Past Present Future and picked up my cat from the clinic (who is very happy to be home).

See y'all at Supercon 2011,
