Long Time Listener, First Time Caller

Needless to say, I haven't posted anything on the blog in awhile...

I'm still working on the website but currently i'm only using it as a means to keep track of some of the stuff I collect and some of my favorite links. Small updates about the site, projects i'm working on, auctions, etc. will go on the Twitter from now on. The blog will be for larger posts worth reading (or at least more interesting than website updates).

In collection news i'm clearing out some of the stuff to pay for my high priority wants (ie; The Maxx & The Walking Dead) so make sure to keep an eye on the Twitter for my upcoming eBay auctions. I've nearly completed the full run of The Walking Dead from issue #1 to 68, missing... Agents #6 (first appearance), GamePro #244 (2 page Kirkman interview), issues: #1 (1st printing w/ the black warning), #2 (1st printing w/ Nov. cover date), #4&5, #7 (1st and 2nd printings) & #15. As far as The Maxx collection goes I still need... Armature #1 (Variant cover), Image Scene (1993 & 1994), Maxx #1/2 (Gold Ed. in binder), Maxx Mini-Comic #2 (Gold & Platinum Ed.'s), Taxx #1/2 Ashcan & #1 & Popbot Book 2, Wizard: The Dark Book (1994), Wizard Magazine #28 & of course all of the signed Ashcans except for the blue covered #1. Then i'll have every Maxx issue and every comic book he's ever appeared in.

Yes I'm still (albeit very slowly) working on my comic book (which is nowhere near completion). Script is written for a couple of pages, some outlines done and working on character sketches.

And since no blog post is complete without some sort of picture, here's a creepy doodle...

Sunday in Broward

Went down to Broward County to TATE'S for their Halloween sale. Tons of comics, toys, anime, graphic novels and a friendly knowledgeable staff. I make sure to go whenever i'm in the area and it's always well worth the drive.

Needless to say, while I was there I picked up a ridiculous amount of comic books and a Marvel Zombies shirt.

After TATE's, had lunch at Pizza Time and then went to IKEA. IKEA is a Swedish nightmare tourist trap. For a place that sells furniture that is slightly overpriced and not even assembled there was probally over a thousand customers. Insane madhouse.

After the Swedish nightmare went to the casino and let's just say I did pretty well. The evening was finished off in Western Palm Beach County at a Japanese Steakhouse for some delicious Hibachi.

A sketch is just a sketch

First I did the whole sketch with a #2 pencil. After I had a general idea of what it should look like I went over it with a fine point Sharpie and erased any remaining penciling.

Surprise surprise, it's a zombie. I've got a feeling there will be alot more zombie sketches posted on this blog in the near future. Also, i'd be extremly surprised if anyone could figure out what inspired the pose & outfit for the zombie.

I'm currently working on putting together a comic book. So far i've drawn out a couple storyboards and a fair amount of the script is in my head. More details on the characters, story, etc. once i'm near completion. I haven't regularly drawn in years and i've never put out a comic book in any form so this should be an interesting journey. Even if the book turns out to be crap, at least I can say "hey... that's MY crap."

Saturday in Orlando

Left around 6am to travel north to Orlando for the Spooky Empire Ultimate Horror Weekend. Of course on the way there I picked up some beef jerky and a Spider-Man sticker at a Stuckeys.

Got to the convention about 2 hours early but it was worth it considering how long the line got before doors opened and the heat outside. When I was going around getting autographs I met Max Brooks who signed my copies of World War Z & Zombie Survival guide, he's an extremly nice guy and his Q&A in the afternoon was awesome.
Got the Night of the Living Dead 1990 DVD signed by director Tom Savini & producers John A. Russo & Russ Streiner. Russo also signed my copy of Night of the Living Dead: The Beginning. All of the media guests & fellow convention goers were super friendly and made it an extremly enjoyable day. Only thing that sucked about the convention was that I didn't stay for the whole weekend!

 

At the convention I picked up,

Russo)), DVDs (C.H.U.D., Deadhunter: Sevillian Zombies, Hellboy Director's Cut, Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave), Trade Paperbacks (Black Panther: The Bride, The Complete Madman Comics Vol. 2, Essential Avengers Vol. 3 & 6, Marvel Graphic Novel #3: Dreadstar, Marvel Graphic Novel #6: Star Slammers, Popbot Book 1, 4, 5 & 6, The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks (signed by Max Brooks)) and a couple t-shirts.

Spooky Empire Ultimate Horror Weekend Saturday was a blast and I will be back for Spooky Empire 2010!

After the convention went to the huge Asian market and picked up all sorts of wacky Japanese drinks and snacks. Incase you were wondering, Birds Nest juice is pretty gross. Had dinner at an awesome Vietnamise restaurant where the seafood was delicious!

Before leaving Orlando, stopped at Coliseum of Comics in the Fashion Mall and picked up Avengers West Coast #80 & 102, The Walking Dead #40-42 & #50 And Marvel Zombies: The Covers HC.
